useful-tip-HP-MediaSma...

There's a great post on MediaSmartServer.net on "Upgrading the HP EX485/487 MediaSmart Server." This was written by Dan “Nomad” Muzenjak and posted by Alex Kuretz, the founder of the site:

"Purpose: This article is a culmination of the work of many on this and other web sites. The sole purpose is to clearly define and outline the steps necessary to modify your HP EX485/487 MediaSmart Server (or MSS) from a single core Intel Celeron 440 to the more powerful Intel Dual Core. It will...

[big debate] Strange smells at Apple Stores?

big-debate-Strange-sme...

I'm my experience for the past year, I've been shopping, or at least, trying to shop at the Apple stores. The one in Woodfield mall used to be my prime choice, but since their remodeling last year, it has a wretched smell. It smells like a bunch of sweaty dudes who never shower. It's like that from opening time, till closing. I've spoke with several store managers, filled out surveys and even emailed support and Steve Jobs on this issue. If you stay in there for more than 5...

[big debate] Apple iPad: Flash a "CPU Hog or Hot Tamale"?

big-debate-Apple-iPad-...

...one argument for ignoring "flash" is that it is "inefficient" and a "CPU hog"...this article suggests otherwise:

...is it a fair comparison?

[news link] Consumer Reports says Apple has the best tech support, Acer/Gateway/eMachines the worst

news-link-Consumer-Rep...

From CrunchGear: Consumer Reports has a new report on which computer company has the best tech support. Apple wins! That's what happens when the same company controls the hardware as well as the operating system (and several of the most prominent pieces of software). The highest ranking PC manufacturer is Dell for desktops and Lenovo for laptops. Read more »

[big debate] Fusion Garage JooJoo: JooJoo revamps interface ahead of launch, adds local video playback

From Engadget:

This thing is looking like a very attractive alternative to the iPad! If it was made more a more reputable company, I think I'd definitely choose this over the iPad. Being able to view the "full web" is a big plus in my opinion.

[useful tip] Apple iPod classic: Rockbox Support.

useful-tip-Apple-iPod-...

I was really disappointed by the, well, "new" iPod classic, when I got it, since there is absolutely no way of getting Rockbox on the thing.

When do you guys think there will be some development of Rockbox for the new generations of iPods?

[support alert] Apple iMac Intel 1st-gen 17-inch: Vertical line on screen

support-alert-Apple-iM...

My wife's iMac has a sing-pixel-wide pink line running vertically down the screen. We're way out of warranty and didn't pay for any extra AppleCare or anything. Poking around Apple's site, it looks like I'd have to pay $30 to even start talking about the problem with the company (oh, and we are 3 hours away from an Apple retail store).

I can live with the line for now... but I have a question - if I hook up an external monitor, will it still be there? if the glitch is in...

[big debate] Microsoft Zune HD: Problems with gdgt Podcast on Zune HD

big-debate-Microsoft-Z...

I have been listening to the gdgt podcast from the start. Initially I was using my ipod Video and had no problems, chapters all worked etc. Then I got a Zune HD, and now I'm having issues.

Firstly I don't get chapters at all. Now I'll admit I haven't really looked into this too much before this post, so I guess chapters may not be an option on the Zune HD. But I also can't fast forward. If you try this it just skips back to 0:00. This is very annoying, because as much as I...
