Chadron State College Eagles Logo Design

Chadron-State-College-...

A little while ago, Chadron State College approached Logo Design Works to rebrand their athletics logo. They had a Chadron Eagles logo that they were not too happy with and wanted a mark that would stand out. Inspired by the Simpson University Mascot that we created, Logo Design Works was the perfect choice.

Logo Design Works worked with the marketing director of Chadron State College and came up with stunning logo concepts based on extensive research into the Chadron State College Athletics team, their values and philosophy and the arenas in which the college team participates.
Chadron State College is located in western Nebraska. They had an official college logo that they were looking to rebrand with more of an athletic mascot “logo”. They were in RMAC conference, Division 2 NCAA and had used the Eagle as the mascot since the founding of the college in 1911.
Targeting Current Students, Alumni, Faculty/Staff, Prospective Students, Sports enthusiasts and Professional teams for recruiting and competing against the likes of New Mexico Highlands, Adams State – Colorado, Colorado Mines, Mesa State – Colorado, Fort Lewis – Colorado, Nebraska-Kearney, Western State – Colorado, the new logo had to make an impact.
After we presented the committee with a bunch of logo concepts featuring some fierce looking eagles, the clients wanted to incorporate a “C” and the resulting design was finalized. Click here to read about the launch of the new logo on Chadron State College website.

Leadership Coaching Logo Design

Leadership-Coaching-Lo...

Great Minds Incorporated (GMI) is a Career and Leadership Coaching and Consulting firm which supports their clients to manifest their personal and organizational greatness! Through Career Coaching they work individually with clients to develop strategies to maximize the use of their strengths, identify and remove obstacles to their personal success, and support them to meet or exceed their career goals and objectives.

Through leadership coaching & consulting they work both with leaders and organizations to clearly develop their goals and objectives, identify and create cultures to sustain long-term peak performance, and maximize the use of individual strengths and organizational competencies. They especially enjoy working with individuals and organizations which value integrity, customer enthusiasm, high performance, and possess both the desire and the ability to accomplish great things.
Targeting individuals who want to achieve greatness, Great Minds wanted a logo that was totally different from the competition. A quick research into what the competition were using for their Education & Training logos, revealed that most were going for text based logo designs with little or no graphical icons. Colors used in the logos were also quite muted and on the whole quite understated. Considering the client’s request to make the company totally stand out, we decided to take a very visual approach to this logo design project.
We created several logo designs which included bold graphics, bright colors and a distinctly web 2.0 logo design look and feel. A couple of these concepts had an abstract human face and a hint of the “brain” and thought process. The client was immediately drawn to this direction and the final logo as you can see above is made of a bold image of an abstract human head with an abstract brain indicating thought. The colors used were striking and had quite an impact.
The font selection and placement was also carefully considered to make sure the audience undertook the professional nature of the company. A modern typeface was selected to lift the design and create a contrast between the bright and bold icon and the cold professional font treatment. The client then used the logo efficiently in their branding efforts including their website and marketing materials.

VersaFiber Renewable Fiber Logo Design

VersaFiber-Renewable-F...

VersaFiber, a renewable fiber company located in Nebraska City 68410 (Nebraska logo design), extracts fibers from agricultural crops such as corn stalks, wheat stalks, cotton stalks etc. These fibers can be used in multiple products from boats to tissues.

VersaFiber’s customers are companies that make a certain product using fibers and most of them are Fortune 500 companies.
VersaFiber have a unique product and their competitors are the manufacturers of Jute and Hemp fibers.
The client wanted the V to look like wheat and corn. They also wanted to see a few concepts with the Versa one color and the Fiber a different color. Also, requested were a few concepts with Versa and Fiber two different fonts.
Under the VersaFiber logo design, the client wanted to have a tag line, “The Renewable Fiber Solution”.
Armed with this information our logo designers came up with a few concepts utilizing ideas of wheat and corn as well as playing with the letter V. The colors used were earthy yet bright. The client immediately liked the concepts and proceeded to ask for variations of a combination of 2 or 3 different concepts.
The result is the logo you see above which looks modern and still retains the earthy and traditional look. Using warm colors, the design communicates the message of a friendly company that is trying to redefine the way manufacturing companies brand themselves in the agricultural logos world.

After the logo was completed, Logo Design Works created matching business card design and other stationery design items such as letterhead design and envelope design. Again using a simple design and watermark of the wheat and corn, the business card looks simple and elegant.

Top 10 Logo Redesigns

Top-10-Logo-Redesigns

We have posted a few times on changes in logo design makeovers and branding, but more great logo design examples just keep coming. Here are ten of our current favorites, along with why we think each will be a success.

1. City of Melbourne

The old logo design did a good job of showing a balanced city, with a bold playful sunshine and more serious columns. However, there is a good chance that no one noticed these well thought out elements because the logo was simply too boring. The new logo is much simpler, with no concrete references to weather or city landmarks, but it is absolutely beautiful. The deep blues and greens are calming, while the complicated geometrical aspects of the ‘M’ image offer a sense of technical skill. This logo design will make people want to visit Melbourne, which is likely the intended effect.

2. Bank of Taipei

The new logo design and the old couldn’t be more different. While the old color is a bold, even aggressive red, the new blue is calming and met to appeal to the modern consumer. The flower that makes up the central image is not just inspired by the flower in the center of the Taipei flag, it is also a symmetrically arranged set of friendly circles arranged around a trustworthy and secure square. The flower also sends a message of growth and openness, which is certainly positive for any bank.

3. Kraft

Kraft is actually in its second logo redesign in not even as many years, this time unveiling a colorful design that is merely a reworking of the first. While the original Kraft logo was very different from its successor, the new one features fewer differences. The same lower case wording in the same font is used, this time in the same thickness for a simpler image. The colors are a little more tropical, with the red and blue that was leftover from the original logo completely wiped out. The flower is the same, although the hues have changed slightly and it has been moved to interact differently with the wording. This logo design signals a further distancing from Kraft’s original logo design and brand.

4. Jack in the Box

This is a good example of a complete change in logo design that comes without any change in brand. Indeed, it is easy to see the same informal fun in this image, just in a stylistically updated version. The color is the same, as is the central shape. However, the shape has been made three dimensional, with writing that is scrolling and slightly retro. This is a good example of how a business can change their logo design without tampering with an otherwise powerful brand.

5. Playstation 3

This is another company that has changed their logo design twice in a single year. Because most video game lovers already called the platform by this nickname, using PS3 as the logo made good sense. It also distances the platform from its predecessors. The original logo redesign featured a Spiderman-like font that appealed to the target audience, but broke one of the cardinal rules of logo design: scaling. It simply didn’t make the cut when drawn in very large or very small sizes. The new design is space age and simple, while also working well in a variety of sizes. However, there is a slight danger that people will read the logo as ‘PSB’.

6. Network Solutions

The old logo design was—shall we say it?—boring. At the very least, it was unfit for an industry leader such as this. It’s easy to see almost any redesign being an improvement, but this one is truly great. The lower case writing is friendly enough to offset the seriousness of the square. The ‘NS’ within the square ties into the name while also being similar to the origami style logos that are so popular now. Keeping the distinctive green, which is a color commonly used in this industry, allowed the company to keep positive aspects of the brand while completely overhauling the logo itself.

7. Chicken Now

The old logo design was attractive but had a few flaws. First, the friendly chicken image was in what appears to be a black bulls eye—something that many people might find offensive. Second, the logo was just a little complicated, and the tagline made no sense for an establishment that serves more than fingers. The new logo retains the friendly nature of the first, but is much more simple and memorable. The bulls eye has been removed, and the round shape of the chicken is reflected in rounded lower case writing.

8. Egypt

The old logo design was good, but the new one is great. Upper case writing has been replaced by distinctive cursive in all lower case. The image of the sun, which may scare off travelers who have heard about this desert nation’s legendary heat, has been replaced by cool watery tones that are calming and serene. Removing a tagline that was a little too generic was a good decision. The use of an ankh, a traditional Egyptian religious symbol, ties in beautifully to the country’s well known past.

9. The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage

How do you pull together the image of a nonprofit company with seven distinct logos? You completely redesign, creating a logo design that shows all of them as a unique entity that fits into an attractive whole. This Philadephia center now is obviously a bright and colorful whole made up by seven obviously separate initiatives. This logo may look simple, but its ability to tie together the different brands was nothing short of brilliant.

10. Caribou Coffee

Caribou Coffee’s logo design was quickly becoming passé and just a little too cartoony. The new one, however, is attractive while also maintaining the brand’s well-known and loved character. The caribou is still a key player, but he is a little more modern. His body is made from a coffee bean and his antlers form the letter ‘C’. He used to be jumping to the left, but now is moving to the right, signifying moving forward rather than backward. The elements are the same in this new logo design, but a more modern and fluid feeling dominates the logo.

Top 10 Consulting Logo Designs

Top-10-Consulting-Logo...

A consultant’s logo must say many things—reliability, technical skill, and knowledge of the field. All of these add up to results, which is why most companies hire a consultant in the first place. This is a diverse field where business consultant logos vary widely depending on the type of consultancy in question, but the following ten have one important thing in common: excellence.

1. Blackbird Consulting Logo Design

One would expect a company with this name to have a blackbird image in the logo design, but this company exceeds expectations. Instead, a square—symbol of reliability and tradition—is filled with a business-like gray, with three wing shapes on the right side. Lower case writing in the same serious gray gives a friendly, modern feelings, but upper case writing below balances this effect. This might be a boring logo design if not for the single pop of color, the red dot on the ‘I’.

2. Murray Consulting Logo Design

Mosaic is a popular theme in logo design right now, and this logo design is almost a variation on the theme. A single, orange-brown M is surrounded by a cloud of smaller black M’s. Like the mosaic, this suggests several distinct pieces coming together to form a cohesive whole. The name of the company is written in the same color, in a serious font that is very thin for a modern feeling. It’s rare to see a logo design using an initial pull it off with such originality, which is exactly what will get this company a second glance from businesses looking for a consultant.

3. Fabian Technology Logo Design

This logo design also uses a theme of several separate elements forming a whole, this time with a series of dots forming two arrow shapes above the company name. While arrows usually suggest direct, fast movement, in this case it is significant that they are pointing directly to the company name. The name is written in very basic, black letters in all upper case, although the tagline is written below in friendlier letters. The use of taupe and black as the color scheme gives a business-like feeling that is very appropriate for the field.

4. Lucid Consulting Logo Design

While the main shape of this logo design appears to be an arc, implying movement, and a small inclusive circle, if you look closely it could also be interpreted as an eye looking down at the company name. However you choose to see it, it is a friendly and highly appropriate shape for this logo. The use of blue suggests a calming, easy experience, an impression that is furthered by the use of rounded lettering. The writing is modern as well, and suggests a technological slant, which in this case is appropriate for the company’s line of work.

5. Starboard Consulting Logo Design

This logo is distinctly more colorful than the preceding ones, which suggests a very different type of experience. The image of a compass ties into the nautical name, but using only half of the compass keeps the logo design from having the friendly inclusive touch of a circle. While blue ties into the nautical theme and also suggests that this company is a problem-solver, the yellow draws in the eye and gives the entire logo design a positive feeling that won’t be lost on prospective clients.

6. Pushy Broads Consulting Logo Design

The tone of this logo design is very different from the others, which is part of what makes it so successful. Instead of colors implying business or at least giving a positive feeling, a bright, aggressive red is used. The effect of this color is softened by a more staid gray as a secondary color. The first word appear to have been somewhat messily typewritten, adding to the aggressive feeling of the logo design. On the other hand, the second word is written in friendly, rounded letters. This logo design suggests a balance between aggressiveness and professionalism that is likely to appeal to clients.

7. Drevland Consulting Logo Design

This logo design is simple, but it contains a hidden message. The initials of the company are written in a stylish, modern font, with friendly rounded edges. The company name sits below written in equally friendly lower case lettering. The hidden message is fun and satisfying to discover: the two initials actually form a pair of glasses. Cleverness can be very effective for a consultancy’s logo design if it is used in an intelligent and understated way.

8. Keith Richards Consulting Logo Design

This consultancy uses an image that will be familiar to business-people everywhere: a flow chart. This combined with the grayscale color choice gives a decidedly businesslike feeling that will appeal to many companies looking for a consultant. The rest of the logo design is equally serious, with upper case writing in a stark, modern font. The modern feeling of the font keeps the logo design from feeling a little too boring.

9. Alosi Group Logo Design

This logo design is clever and interesting to look at, with an A and a G placed together to create two letters out of one attractive image. The blue used in both the image and the lettering is calming and reassures worried clientele, while the plain, upper case writing lets the public know that this company is all business. This logo design is sure to earn a second glance, which is exactly what makes it so perfect.

10. A&R Consulting Logo Design

This consultancy compares business to a chess game, an analogy that many people will agree with. Two chess pieces are shown in serious black and white, which is appropriate as these are the colors most commonly used in the game. The ‘A&R’is written in bold letters that are modified to be slightly more interesting. The tagline explains the use of chess pieces in a consultant’s logo, making it easy for customers to understand why they should use this company. This logo is very different from all of our other examples, but it is successful in its own way.

Top 10 Local Restaurant Logo Designs

Top-10-Local-Restauran...

When most people write about restaurant logos, much of the emphasis is placed on either national or nationally known establishments. However, there are many smaller restaurants that have brands and logo designs that rival or even surpass the big guys. Here are a few local restaurant logos that are a good example of success in this field, representing many different areas and just as many different types of food and atmosphere.

1. The Lanai Local Restaurant Logo Design

Because this word is Hawaiian, the use of a tropical flower is both beautiful and appropriate. However, this restaurant is offering modern fare, so the logo design uses a modern, muted color palette with calming organic green and a warmer deep orange. The word ‘lanai’ is in lower case letters in a hand-drawn cursive font, a soft and even feminine look that is balanced by blocky upper case writing used for the other words. This logo is well-balanced: tropical yet modern, friendly yet serious.

2. Vamonos Logo Design

This taqueria has a logo design that is invitingly Latin while also modern and fun. The large rectangle gives a sense of tradition, but the orange color is youthful and contemporary. The writing is purposely messy, adding to the bold feeling with large blocky letters. To create contrast while also tying into the Mexican food theme, bright green limes are used for the O’s. This logo design is bright and attractive while clearly tying into the restaurant’s brand.

3. Fruition Local Restaurant Logo Design

This smoothie shop offers a fruity but nonetheless calm and modern logo design. A slightly skewed square in a neutral gray-green shade gives a sense of stability that anchors the friendly, brightly colored spiral. The writing below is in a fluid, somewhat random font. The use of berry colors on a neutral makes the logo design pop without being overwhelming.

4. Afterglo Logo Design

The color of this South Beach restaurant and night club’s logo design is perhaps the most significant aspect, a youthful orange that is ultra-modern while also perfectly representing the colors of the Miami sunset. A shining sun forms the image, with a spiral inside to imply positive change. The lettering is informal in all lower case, with thin, unassuming letters. This logo design ties perfectly into the name and the brand of this restaurant and nightclub.

5. Pacific Rim Logo Design

The image in this logo design steals the show, with two fluid shapes forming a P and an R, depending on how you look at it. The blue color clearly ties into the oceanic theme, while the yellow edging adds maximum contrast. The dark red wording in ultra-tall, modern letters adds a serious touch that balances the artsy image. A tagline below lets potential customers know what kind of food to expect here, although the name and logo design do a great job of portraying that as well.

6. Gator Krawls Logo Design

There are few creatures as unfriendly as an alligator, but this restaurant does a good job of making a gator themed restaurant feel friendly and approachable. The alligator is seen from above and drawn in a somewhat abstract manner to reduce any possible threatening feeling. The writing is lower case to add an inclusive and inviting touch. As with many successful logo designs, there clearly was a lot of thought given to balance; the green and orange stand out well against each other, and the newsy font with serifs adds seriousness to the image.

7. Prime 16 Local Restaurant Logo Design

Sometimes clever drawings are a little too juvenile; at other times they seem to work well. This logo design is clearly one of the second types, with an image of a cow’s head that doubles as a partially empty glass of beer. This is a good balance for a tap house and burger joint in the same establishment. Red is commonly used in burger restaurants, but this red is a little darker and more sophisticated. Bold, thick black letters add a solid feeling and weigh down the humorous image, while the writing below lets people know what to expect at this restaurant.

8. Pasta Pane Logo Design

This restaurant obviously specializes in bread and pasta, both of which are usually made of wheat, so this makes a good choice for the main image. The color scheme is warm and rustic, which makes positive suggestions about the type of meal visitors can expect here. The name of the restaurant is written in hand drawn letters that compliment the rustic theme, while the wording below is in more serious writing. The way the logo design is angled to take on a banner-like shape, which adds a suggestion of quality. Some logo designs are successful because they communicate exactly what to expect from the business at hand, and this one is a good example.

9. The Roof Logo Design

The restaurant is more subtly Asian than most, suggesting food that is both ethnic and modern. The roof is curved to appear to belong to a pagoda, which definitely bolsters the Asian feeling. The color red and the way the roofline appears to be written with a brush also tie into this. However, this image is balanced by serious, plain black writing with the main word emphasized in the same bold red.

10. The Black Rose Irish Pub Logo Design

The name suggests Southern charm, which is why the bar logo design is so important. The woman in the image is definitely edgy, which fluffy, bright red hair. A red, gray, and black color palette suggests that this edge is sophisticated and fashionable as well. With flowers, butterflies, and other symbols of femininity, it is easy to guess that this is a girly blog—although not the wilting violet sort of girl that you might initially guess from the name.

As you can see, small restaurants can be just as strong in branding and logo design as their national competitors. Part of this is due to the nature of a local business; owners can have a logo design that appeals to a narrower market. However, small businesses are in general freer to play with their brand and experiment. If you want a logo design for your business that is evocative and relevant, talk to a logo designer today.

Top 10 Professional Blog Logos

Top-10-Professional-Bl...

There was a time when bloggers and writers logos were a fringe group sharing their feelings about politics and their recipe for awesome peanut butter cookies. While we have nothing against politics or cookies, it was hard to take the genre seriously. In the last few years, however, the field has become more and more professional—even cut-throat in some areas. This means that professional bloggers must think of their blog as a small business and market it accordingly. The following ten blog logo designs are attractive and communicative enough to take their blog into the future.

1. Kentucky Girl Professional Blog Logo Design

The name suggests Southern charm, which is why the logo design is so important.

2. Ten Thousand Things Professional Blog Logo Design

The background for this blog’s logo design is outer space, which can suggest infinity or merely that the blog posts on somewhat random topics. The use of a circle—not just once, but repeatedly—brings up friendly, inclusive feelings in the viewer. The way several small circles are combined to create a single whole is modern and attractive while also suggesting that this blog brings together diverse concepts. Green is a calming and natural color, but also one identified heavily with the software industry. The writing is simple, but anything more would detract from the simplicity and beauty of the image.

3. I Can Has Cheezburger Professional Blog Logo Design

This cat lovers blog is a little crazy and more than a little grammatically incorrect, which is what makes the name and the logo design so appropriate. The wording is fit into an obvious cheeseburger shape, complete with lettuce and tomato. The thick and somewhat irregular writing gives a bold image that is nonetheless homegrown. This logo design is fun and definitely relevant to the name.

4. L’Effet Crea Professional Blog Logo Design

This blog has a logo design that is modern and feminine at the same time. Brown is a fashionable color right now, so it makes a perfect background. The brown also helps the bright blue, pink, and white to stand out more without appearing cluttered or offensively bright. Again we see butterflies, flowers, and all things girly, although the effect is very different from the other blog logos we have looked at.

5. Penguin & Fish Professional Blog Logo Design

This oddly named blog has a logo design that ties directly into the name. The image of a friendly, ultra-modern penguin and fish dominate the logo design. Shades of brown and gray give a modern feeling and keep the logo from being too cartoony. Lower case lettering in a modern, rounded font add to the contemporary yet cutesy air. People who see this logo design will be curious about the blog, which in turn invites more readers.

6. Estefany Franco Professional Blog Logo Design

This blog logo design is bold and fun, something that could only work for this industry and this person. The lettering is three dimensional and somewhat haphazardly placed, while the bold colors add to an image of strong, modern femininity. Wavy shapes give a feeling of movement and change that is essential to a blog, while star invoke impressions of ‘star power’. The images of bubbles and even a butterfly make the logo design feel a little random, but that clearly is the image that the author is trying to project. This logo design is bold, interesting, and uniquely representative of the blog it represents.

7. Style Bubble Professional Blog Logo Design

This logo design is set against a background that is a rich brocade fabric, tying into the name and subject of the blog. This might be cliché for a blog logo, but the blog sets itself apart by having the name written in messy blog letters that suggest graffiti. The mix of messy and neat, modern and traditional, creates a sense of balance and a feeling of honesty that will give this blog the street credit it is likely seeking.

8. Perez Hilton Professional Blog Logo Design

This celebrity blogger has been able to use principles of branding to create his own stardom. An image of the now well-recognized Perez Hilton forms the sole image. The name of the blog is written in pink block letters with sparkling accents, which hints at the flamboyance of the website. The tagline is original and fun, both informing audiences of the purpose of the blog and hinting at the author’s legendary sense of humor. This may be a ‘love it or hate it’ logo design, but that sentiment is appropriate because it is true of the blog itself.

9. I Am Finch Personal Blog Logo Design

This logo is ultra-simple, but still manages to communicate about the brand. The use of lower case letters and the image of a bird in place of the last word give a friendly feeling. This emotional appeal is further given by a calming blue and gray color palette. The wording appears to have been stamped or stenciled by hand, giving an artisan feeling. This logo design may not say a lot about the blog itself, but it speaks volumes about the brand and the owner’s sense of graphic design as a communication tool.

10. Elitist Snob Personal Blog Logo Design

This blog has a humorous yet telling name. The same could be said for their logo design. The writing is lower case, which suggests that even non-snobs can find humor here, but the font is very contemporary, tying in with the name. A calming blue background suggests a stress free experience, while the beret perched on the writing adds to the snob appeal. A tagline below gives the name of the author, which is a little uncommon in a writing genre that is known for anonymity. Although this logo design is communicative, it is also simple and easy to recognize.

Top 10 Florist Logos

Top-10-Florist-Logos

We don’t think a lot about florist logos, but there is no doubt that they have an impact on consumer behavior. A florist logo design tells you what kind of designs to experience from the business, while also hinting at the quality of the overall experience. The following ten logo designs represent very different businesses, but they represent them well.

1. White Garden Logo Design

This is perhaps the most contemporary logo design in our group. Instead of flowery colors, the background is in a traditional taupe. The rectangle implies tradition and ties together an otherwise very complicated logo design. The writing is simple, but made more feminine and flowery by scrolling lines in the background. A doily-like design to the left is overlayed by more detail and even butterflies, while bars of color at the bottom at a little depth to the logo design. This logo design is very different from almost every other florist logo, which helps set it apart as a sophisticated choice in the market.

2. Flowers by Heidi Logo Design

This logo design is nothing if not flowery, with the company name written in a swirling font and accentuated by the image of three leaves drawn in an equally fancy hand. The name of the hotel hosting this florist is below in most conventional, serious writing, helping to distinguish the companies as two separate entities. The mauve color palette is modern but unmistakably feminine, while the black adds a little weight to the image.

3. Dragonfly Logo Design

The dragonfly image obviously ties in to the name of this business, but if you look closely, the fly’s wings are patterned to be similar to leaves. The writing is thin and lower case, which creates a friendly image, but the letters are tall to add interest and a contemporary feeling to the design. The F stretched upward to form part of the dragonfly brings the image and the wording together in a seamless fashion. The color combination of green with red accents is high contrast and pulls the eye in to an otherwise calming image.

4. Simply Daisys Logo Design

This freelance florist has a logo design that is fun and feminine without a touch of seriousness. A leafy green and a fashionable purple make up the main colors, with pops of pink in the flowers dotting the I’s. These bright colors contrast without clashing, creating a colorful image that is not overwhelming or tacky. The writing is rounded and unassuming, creating an overall feeling of flowery fun. It is easy to guess the type of whimsical designs that you can expect from this business, which differentiates it from the many more traditional competitors.

5. On Occasions Logo Design

The simple yet abstract picture of a rose dominates the image, with a spiral in the center that implies movement and artistry. While the writing is as traditional and serious as can be, the second O in ‘occasions’ is in a spiral shape that ties in perfectly to the image while adding needed contrast. The color scheme is highly relevant to a florist, with a light green as well as a flowery magenta and even a youthful orange. A scrolling shape beneath the logo design adds emphasis and gives another artistic edge.

6. La Fleur Logo Design

This florist logo stands out because is so vibrant. This florist shop offers more than just flowers, which is represented by the different letters in the wording. The irregularity and brightness of the words creates a crazy but fun feeling that hints at eccentricity in a positive way. An actual photograph of a bright tropical flower creates a sense of realism and sets the business apart from the average florist. A ‘stitched’ outline in an oval shape gives the logo design a defined border while also adding friendliness to an already friendly design.

7. The Magickal Florist Logo Design

The ‘Olde Englishe’ spelling and the name itself both hint at a florist shop that is very different from the rest. The logo design does this as well, showing not just a flowering tree, but scrolling, rolling roots. The wording is a little simple, but has wavy serifs that add an edge of creativity. The general shape of the logo design is a little reminiscent of psychedelic, hippy drawings, which likely was the intended effect. This florist logo obviously was intended to appeal to a very different audience, and it will be very successful in that goal.

8. Lubliner Florists Logo Design

Instead of being bright and flowery, this florist chooses to set an ultra-modern, sophisticated tone with a simple, black and white color scheme. The writing is ultra-basic, thin and plain, which adds an unassuming and more approachable feeling to a logo that might otherwise have been too stuffy. The I in the first word stretches up elegantly to form a simple, beautiful flower. The suggestion of this logo design is that this florist shop offers simple and elegant designs that appeal to people with minimalist sensibilities.

9. Kaleidoscope Flowers Logo Design

This floral shop also uses black and white for a sophisticated effect, this time with a pop of leafy green in the image. The flowery, ornate initial closed in by a square offers a pleasing mix of tradition and creativeness that suggests a well-rounded florist shop. The name of the business is written in bright white letters in a scrolling, feminine script. The only improvement we would make to the logo design is to remove the faux backlighting from the business name—it is distracting and in some sizes may reduce readability.

10. Prickly Pair Logo Design

The name is rather punny, but this is more than made up for by the simple, attractive logo design. The writing is as basic as it could possibly be, but this allows the attention to be placed on the way the K extends into a beautiful cactus flower. The high contrast of dark green and bold magenta is eye catching without going overboard. This logo may be one of the simplest on this list, but it is nonetheless attractive and inviting.

Top 10 Simple Logos (Yet Effective Logos)

Top-10-Simple-Logos-Ye...

We tend to focus more on logos with a lot of frills because there is simply more to talk about. However, few consumers think about how the simple, iconic logo designs and minimalistic logos around them have a huge effect. You may not spend a lot of time thinking about the Nike logo, but it nonetheless has a very powerful subconscious effect. Here are the top ten simple logos, along with what exactly makes them so effective.

1. Nike Logo Design

This may look like a basic swoosh, but it says so much about the brand. This simple shape communicates movement, change, and innovation in a single, wordless shape. As a bonus, it also resembles a rounded version of a checkmark. Because the swoosh is different from every other shape and image used in logo design, it is highly recognizable and easy to identify. This logo likely has had a huge part in the success of this company as well as its ability to expand seamlessly to new markets.

2. Apple Logo Design

The bitten apple will always be indelibly related to this company, which means it is a complete logo design success. Although the image has been used in a variety of colors, from a self-contained rainbow to basic, shiny silver, it is still associated with Apple. The bite out of the apple is the secret to this equation. It arouses enough interest to keep people looking, although it certainly does not complicate the logo design or detract from its simplicity.

3. WWF Logo Design

This nonprofit organization has a logo design that has changed very little over the decades, in part because there is no reason to make a substantial change away from this simple, effective image. The initials are rounded and friendly, but bold enough to have a definite presence. This gentle rounding is reflected in the circular panda bear. Because a panda bear is an easily recognizable animal that needs protection from organizations such as this, it is a very appropriate spokesperson indeed.

4. London Underground Logo Design

This well known ‘Roundel’ features a red circle with a blue bar intersecting it. While this seems simple, it actually says a lot. Circles are inclusive shapes, which makes them appropriate for any type of public services. They also are roughly the shape of a subway tube. The red and blue are the colors of the British flag, while the rounded white writing in the blue crossbar make it easy for people to read. This logo design is easy to recognize at a distance, which is crucial for subway signs. However, it is also distinctively British in color and very appropriate for its industry, which makes it relevant as well.

5. FedEx Logo Design

This logo design is all about hidden messages. The deep blue is relaxing and trustworthy, while the orange is youthful and fun. The combination is high contrast and very eye catching. Although this is usually perceived as a text-based logo, it in fact has the image of an arrow hidden inside the letters. Can you see it?

6. USA Network Logo Design

Television networks have a tall order when it comes to logo design. First, they must have a logo design that communicates exactly what makes them and their programming different from the competition. Second, they must have a logo design that is simple enough to be recognizable while crammed into the corner of a television screen. The USA Network’s logo design meets both requirements. The way the ‘S’ is created from negative space is interesting and intelligent, which says nothing but good about the network. The boldness of the letters implies that this is a ‘big’ network, which in this case is accurate. Last, the use of lower case letters adds a friendly touch that is so important in entertainment.

7. Coca-Cola Logo Design

Few companies have achieved quite the level of success that Coca-Cola enjoys, and this eminence is shown in the logo design itself. Instead of a busy image, the logo design is simple the name of the company written in its signature, cursive font. The way the letters end in swirling shapes is very relevant to refreshing liquids and also gives a feeling of movement. The red color is often seen in food and beverage logos, and this appropriate here.

8. BBC Logo Design

The BBC is a classic, dependable company with a long history, which makes the traditional square an ideal shape for this logo design. The letters are thin and unimposing, which creates a sense of balance against the heavy black shapes. There isn’t a lot to say about this logo design, but everyone recognizes it and associates it with the company it represents.

9. Mercedes Benz Logo Design

The logo design for this upscale company is seen and envied on streets all over the world, which is a testimony to its simplicity and high recognition. The circular shape is friendly, but there is actually a story behind this simple logo design. Mercedes once manufactured airplanes, and their logo design is a rough representation of airplane propellers when looking straight on. This relationship to the company history is not well known, but definitely creates an attractive image.

10. Shell Logo Design

This is another logo design that has aged well, needing only the occasional ‘facelift’ to remain relevant in an ever changing market. The shell shape obviously relates directly to the name, while the red and yellow provide high contrast and are also associated with fast food. The rays in the shell combined with its bright yellow color create a subtle resemblance to a dawning sun as well, which is positive and friendly.

When looking for ten simple and effective logo designs, the challenge isn’t so much finding them as narrowing down the long list of contenders. Why do simple logos work so well? First, because they are easy to remember. Second, they tend to be more attractive simply because they are less overwhelming. While there are certainly cases where a more complicated logo has been equally effective, nothing can touch the timeless appeal of these works of art.

Top 10 Loving Heart Logos

Top-10-Loving-Heart-Logos

What’s in a heart? Not only is this shape a representative of love and affection, it also is the life force of the human body. A heart can have extremely positive connotations, but it also can be seen as cliché and even childish. As we will see from the following ten heart logos, there are ways to use this shape in logo design while maintaining adult sophistication and complete seriousness. The following ten logos get at the heart of logo design, both literally and figuratively.

1. Pathos Logo Design

The Pathos logo uses a heart formed from swirling shapes in two barely different shades of red. The waves imply movement while also adding interest to the otherwise mundane heart shape. The writing is friendly in rounded lower case letters with a modern edge. This logo design takes a well known shape and puts a new and interesting spin on it, which is definitely the thumbprint of a professional.

2. Webend Logo Design

This company uses a heart, but this time it is formed out of two of the letters in a clever yet legible manner. Instead of red or pink, this logo design goes for a youthful look with sunny yellow. Again we see the rounded lower case font, and with the same friendly effect. The black lettering is just serious enough to balance the design and lend a little credibility.

3. Bugluv Logo Design

Very few people love bugs, but this logo design manages to create an insect image that many will feel an affection for. The image of a small bug with heart shaped wings is beyond cute, and ties perfectly into the name. Rounded, lower case writing seems to be the norm with heart-based logos, and this one is no exception.

4. Sky of Love Logo Design

How can you form an airplane out of a heart? This logo design is ingenious just because it manages to perform this impossible task in an attractive and realistic manner. It’s hard to think of a color scheme more appropriate for this subject that a sky blue and fluffy cloud white. As a bonus, Sky of Love ignores the lower case wording that seems to be the norm with this type of logo and instead uses more serious capital letters that nonetheless are rounded to be a little less formidable.

5. Inlove Logo Design

It’s hard to figure out exactly what the image in this logo design is. Obviously there is a heart. However, is it topped with a crown for royalty, or is it merely a more realistic, anatomically accurate heart? The gold color suggests that royalty is the true meaning of this logo, but there is no way to tell for sure. Either way, the image is attractive and contributes to an interesting logo. The plain writing does not add to or detract from the heart, which is likely the best approach in this case.

6. Pixellove Logo Design

This logo design features a pixilated heart image, which perfectly complements the business name and brand. Again we see lower case, rounded lettering, although in a business like black. For the heart, only red would do here. The use of a tagline here is very appropriate because it would be difficult to guess the line of business from the logo design alone. Although the pixilation of the logo design might have led to a busy and overcrowded image, the use of one color alone kept it simple and memorable.

7. PenPals Logo Design

Instead of using a heart to form another shape, this logo design uses images to create a heart. The pen nibs crossed to form a heart contribute to a visually interesting and yet very relevant shape. The use of red helps to promote the heart effect; in another color, the fact that this is a heart would not have been so clear. Rounded yet thick letters help complete a well rounded and unique logo design.

8. Threesome Logo Design

Because the word threesome brings up somewhat naughty images, this logo design has to walk a fine line between being appropriate for the name and being too naughty for the general public. Instead of referring to the name itself, this logo design features an asymmetrical heart that was drawn to have three halves rather than two. This hints at the adult content that the name implies without ever actually referring to it. To be a little friendlier, the writing is in rounded lower case letters in basic black. This logo effectively handles a scandalous name and even defuses it.

9. Love Your Business Logo Design

Because this logo design obviously is aimed at businesses, the romantic associations of the heart must be played down. A serious, modern color palette is the first step toward this, with a bright, contemporary green against a sober dark brown in the background. This effect is further enhanced by the use of a very plain, newsy font for the wording. Turning the heart on its side to form a ‘B’ is clever enough to grab the customers’ attention without being too playful for a business logo.

10. I Love Moustache Logo Design

This was actually a personal identity logo for an unknown person, but it has become a cult classic through the internet. An ‘I’ and a heart are used as eyes for the man in question, The logo design is similar to the well known I Heart NY logo, which adds a little sophistication to the mix. The lack of writing is appropriate because it allows people to focus on the simple, attractive image without any distractions. Whoever the person that this brand represents, I can only imagine that it suits them well.

As you can see, these logos have more in common than merely having hearts in them. First, there are many examples here of using rounded lower case writing to add a friendly touch, which is so important in matters of the heart. Second, color weighs heavily in these logos, with people choosing to use traditional colors such as red—or eschew tradition altogether—to make a statement about their company.

Top 10 Green Logos

Top-10-Green-Logos

Green is more than a color: it is the quiet calm of nature, a representative of health and safety, and even a lifestyle movement. Few colors are as expressive or as heavily loaded with meaning as this one. We wrote about the top 10 blue colored logos in the past too. The following ten green logos use this color to communicate important information about their companies, although they approach this in very different ways.

1. Greentack Logo Design

Green living is a huge cause lately, and many people will buy a new product simply because it is the green alternative to the brand they currently use. Greentack is just one of the many green products overtaking the market, and it has a logo design that is representative of the genre as well. The name of the company is written in rounded lower case letters that are friendly and inviting, with the image of a leaf above in a coordinating color of green. Like many green companies, this one uses a tagline to reinforce the idea that they are an ecologically friendly force.

2. Vivaio Logo Design

The Vivaio logo design also uses a leaf as the main image, although there are some differences here. First, the lettering is not friendly in any way, but instead sophisticated and upscale in a capital point in black with pointy serifs. This rather severe image is enclosed in a circle, which adds a little friendliness to balance the writing. This is a good example of how the same image—a leaf in this case—can be transformed into two very different logo designs.

3. The Bug World Experience Logo Design

In this logo design for a museum specializing in insects, the dominant shape is a green sphere relating to the ‘world’ in question. A small bug on the globe looks curiously at viewers. A banner across the globe advertises the museum as a truly interesting experience. This logo design will appeal to families and children visiting the area, which is likely the target audience.

4. Spring Breeze Medicine Logo Design

A medical practice with inclinations toward holistic medicine can use green to show their natural side. Again we see a friendly circle in a shocking green shade. A wavelike shape across the sphere gives a feeling of movement. The name is written first in Chinese and then in a very simple font, both in a rich metallic gold that suggests wealth and riches. While this logo design is clearly created for a specific culture, it nonetheless has elements that are successful with a variety of backgrounds.

5. Wishpot Logo Design

This wish list website has a much more whimsical logo. We see once again the extremely rounded, lower case writing. The sole image is of a flower rising out of the H, with petals plying into the wind as though blown off in the midst of a wish. This logo design is whimsical and wistful, enough to make anyone remember their childhood longings and their adult ones as well.

6. Green Party Logo Design

Again we see a leaf, but this time it is very different from any of the leaf images we have seen so far. The leaf in this case is ultra stylized and set against a black background. The name of the party is written in gray, adding a business-like touch to the mixture. The tagline below is written in the same font as the leaf and offers insight into the political aims of the party itself.

7. Planet Green Logo Design

What could make more sense for a company named for a green planet than an actual green planet? In this case. The planet is a friendly, inclusive shape that makes viewers feel as though they are welcome with this business. This friendly image is furthered by the lower case writing in a non-confrontational font. This image is very simple, but every detail has been thought out well, which is a sign of good logo design.

8. Gifted by Nature Logo Design

Here we see a green background in a beautiful green print with a white image and wording to create a clean and high contrast logo design. The image is of a gift with a leafy vine as a bow. The cursive is artsy and not even a little traditional, creating a creative brand that will appeal to their target consumer. A tagline below explains the key brand values, although the logo is expressive enough that it really could do without this. Because Gifted by Nature offers organic and ecofriendly gifts, a green logo design and brand are certainly perfect here.

9. Chaophya Park Logo Design

This upscale resort has a brand that demands a green logo design, with natural leanings, organic spa treatments, and food grown onsite for the restaurants. The writing is serious in upper case letters with serifs, while the dark forest green is more relaxing and soothing than a brighter use of color in the logo would be. The image is off palm fronds combined with a wave, which is very appropriate for a tropical seaside resort. This logo design combines the important and salient aspects of the brand into an attractive and coherent image.

10. Playdom Logo Design

This business specializes in making iPhone applications allowing users to play their favorite Facebook games on their phone. As such, a playful logo design is definitely in order. Although green is often seen as a natural or calming color, here it is modern and bright, hinting at the technology that this business specializes in. The image is of a serrated circle enclosing teo P’s and a crown, tying into the name while adding a friendly touch. The friendly feeling is furthered by the tagline below. Black solid letters lend a business-like touch without being too overwhelming.

As you can see, a green logo can mean a variety of things and be drawn in many different ways. It doesn’t have to be cliché or boring, or even ecological. If you think green may be the perfect color palette for your new logo design, contact a logo designer about the many possibilities.

Top 10 Bar Logos

Top-10-Bar-Logos

There was a time when bars and other drinking establishments paid very little attention to branding. The assumption was that people were there to drink, not to buy into a brand. However, we have seen many bar logos lately that are sure to entice customers in droves. It just goes to show that there is no industry too small or too sinful for beverage logo design or alcohol logo design to have a huge effect on success. Here are ten logos that are proving our point with every drink consumed.

1. Martini House Logo Design

This logo design has a black and white color palette that might be boring if the establishment didn’t specialize in a beverage known for a simple yet sophisticated taste. The image ties directly into the name, with two martini glasses enclosing a house. The writing is simple and bold, again resembling the martini. This logo is understated but undeniably makes a statement.

2. Bridges Pub & Eatery Logo Design

Again, we see the name of the bar worked into the image in a clever and memorable way. In this case, the shape of a suspension bridge is filled with cutlery, hinting that there is much more than peanuts to sample here. The brown and tan color scheme is earthy and modern at the same time. In addition, this is the color palette of beers and ales, making it an appropriate choice. Not only is this logo design appropriate for the business, it also is more modern than that of the average pub, suggesting that you will find a very different pub experience here.

3. Bar Code Logo Design

Sometimes using puns in a name or logo design comes out just a little too contrived, but in this case it is successful. The name plays on a term that every modern shopper is familiar with, and the ubiquitous bar code is also used to fill a pint glass in the image. The yellow is youthful and positive, while the black creates the perfect contrast.

4. Wine Kingdom Logo Design

Again, color is used to send a message, in this case a sophisticated message suggesting that this is a more upscale wine bar. The image in the logo design is of a single wine glass, with the barrel drawn to look like a castle turret. The image might have come off as too medieval or cartoony were it not for the simple color scheme, but in black and white it is interesting and still contemporary.

5. The Brewer’s Art Logo Design

Here we see images associated with brewing, but very stylized—a stalk of grain, a single hop flower—with a stylized spiral sun in the background. The use of several empty stalks in the logo design create a balanced image and imply that the picture is drawn post-harvest, which is when the newest beer varieties usually hit the market. The green is earthy yet modern, providing exactly the right image for this highly rated bar.

6. Latitudes Logo Design

This logo has very little in common with the smooth, sophisticated bar logos we have seen so far, but in this case with good reason. This bar offers a traditional rowdy Alaskan drinking experience. The tagline explains the name, while the image of a king crab nursing a tall glass of beer just screams, ‘Drinking in Alaska’. Lifelike colors add a touch of realism, while the jagged writing implies a somewhat rough experience. Because people who visit Alaska aren’t necessarily looking for a wine bar with gourmet leanings, this kitschy yet cool logo is a winner.

7. Zeitgeist Logo Design

This former biker bar in a gentrified neighborhood offers a taste of the rough side for local professionals. This makes this rather scary logo design an important part of the brand. Combining two rather naughty symbols—a skull and a Playboy bunny—creates a unique image that is interesting and a little scary. Because the bar is located in an upscale neighborhood where people are more like to ride a ten-speed than a Harley, the counter culture brand is cool and doesn’t scare anyone away. Black and white is not only a good choice in color; it is the only choice that would have made sense for this San Francisco bar.

8. Strange Brew Tavern Logo Design

This bar is well known for its live music, as the name suggests. For this reason, the image of a saxophone complimented by lettering also in metallic brass tones is a great choice. The use of old fashioned lettering and little embellishment gives the impression of a simple, back to basics experience, in this case with great music. This logo suggests the comfortable charm of an old fashioned jazz bar, which is exactly what it is offering.

9. Little Branch Logo Design

This bar has an ultra-modern image that is in part created by its logo design. The simple white background with metallic gold writing is a nice change from the mainstay of black and white. The simple, no frills writing and lack of a picture in this logo design suggest that this is a place for a simple, uncomplicated night out. Considering how trying the bar scene can be, I bet many people find Little Branch’s subtle brand a welcome alternative.

10. Barcade Logo Design

This logo design includes a play on words that in this case is very appropriate—the bar in question has one of the largest collections of old fashioned arcade games for drinkers to amuse themselves with. The logo is of the company name with rays of lights drawn above, which ties into the arcade theme. The black and white combined with the way the logo design appears to be drawn out of chalk adds a little homegrown touch that adds interest to the overall image.

There are many ways to approach a bar logo. In fact, there really are no right and wrong moves in this industry. What’s important is that the logo design match the unique brand of the establishment in question and create an image that will draw in people looking for a drink.
