I’ve had a challenging month this last month.  It started with a long over due vacation.  We decided to go with my parents and brother camping in the Utah west desert.  We had a lot of fun the first day we were there.  What we didn’t plan on was my two year old falling down the camper steps and breaking his leg.  It’s a frightening thought when you know your child is injured and you are several hours from a hospital or cellular phone signal.  The break was very bad.  My dad wrapped him up in a stretcher with boxes, a foam egg crate, and duck tape so we could cross over the dirt roads to get to the hospital.  Everything turned out ok and he had surgery that night to fix the leg.  I was feeling pretty stressed for about a week after it all happened.  He’s in a spica cast which is a little shocking for a parent.  Anyway, I was in the middle of my stress meltdown over it and I took him for a checkup at the children’s hospital.  As I went to leave, I was putting my stroller away and a car backed into me and hit me.  I was confused at first and wondering what happened as I was laying there on the ground.  Then, I felt a little mad.  When the lady who hit me got out of her car, she just burst into tears.  She wanted to know if I was ok and all of that.  I knew I was.  I just stood there shaking after I got up.  Then, she just cried and told me how much stress they were under.  She had a preemie baby who had been born 12 weeks early and had been in the hospital there for three months.  She just cried and said it was so stressful for them.  I realized at that moment that my two year old with his spica cast was nothing and I could handle it just fine.  It was a very humbling experience.  After I knew I was ok, I gave her a hug and sent her on her way.  I am very grateful for my trials and all that I learn by going through them.
