Browsable 180 megapixel image of Twitter conversation

Try out the browsable version on the Media Lab Toronto site.

Something I came up with while experimenting with displaying large amounts of Twitter data. In this case all the Tweets about the TEDxWaterloo conference. Using speech bubble images generated live for the Twitter Wall I created for the event.

These are all the public Twitter messages sent during the event that mention the word tedxwaterloo. Each column in this display represents the messages from a 10 minute period.

Built using the very handy Google Maps Image Cutter created at University College London.

In an article I wrote for the Huffington Post, I compare the distribution strategy of the House GOP's health care maze - which illustrated the bureaucratic complexity inherent in the House Democrats' proposed health care legislation - with that of Organizing for America's chart showing U.S. job loss statistics between December 2007 and January 2010 that was used to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the stimulus bill.

Both of these information graphs succeeded in getting their points across visually, but OFA's distribution strategy took the campaign to the next level. Whereas the House GOP produced a PDF file that users had to download to view, Organizing for America's multi-channel execution and deployment of its one-year stimulus anniversary chart not only succeeded in spreading the information in multiple channels, it engaged its supporters to help spread the content even further and show strong support for President Obama.

Spatial Query is a valuable tool that allows users to draw an ad hoc area on the map and return formatted content and business intelligence, or perform precise actions for items within that area. Box query areas can be adjusted and the query is immediately rerun.

Only large, human, randomized placebo-controlled trials in our data scrape – wherever possible. No animal trials. No cell studies.

We looked at the abstracts of over 1500 studies on PubMed (run by US National Library Of Medicine) and Cochrane.org (which hosts meta-studies of scientific research). It took us several months to seek out the evidence – or lack of.
